It blew everyone away when it first came out in 1979.
Now, the iconic Sony Walkman is wowing a different audience at a retrospective in the ritzy Tokyo district of Ginza.
This blast from the past, or the #009 Walkman in the Park exhibition, will run until September 1 and is being staged to celebrate the iconic gadget’s 40th anniversary.
Before online streaming revolutionized the industry, the snazzy auto player dominated the music scene.
“[The] Walkman [has] shaped the unique, creative and innovative Sony brand,” Daisuke Nagano, the president of Sony, said during a media briefing as reported by the Japan Times.
“Customers’ memories generated through our Walkman product are what we should always keep in mind regardless of how the company proceeds to survive in this highly competitive business field.”
